KR is a bilingual (Spanish), queer public speaker and grassroots organizer of Central and South American descent. Karla is the founding director of La Raza For Liberation, a nonprofit organization that empowers Indigenous, Latinx, and Afrolatinx activists across human, animal, and environmental justice movements. Vargas has over 10 years of experience speaking in front of an audience, and has traveled across the U.S. and overseas working in community development, conflict resolution, human rights, sexual and domestic abuse, mass incarceration, animal rights, and food sovereignty. A first generation American and college graduate, KR has published empowering stories of overcoming poverty and abuse to find strength in activism and social work.
What is the future of animal rights? As veganism becomes increasingly popular, how must our efforts change? In this talk, KR will discuss the challenges the movement currently faces with regards to remaining radical in its foundation, and becoming relevant to other social and environmental justice movements.
